HR's Strategic Journey in Decreasing Turnover and Increasing Co-worker Engagement at Parkview Health

This recording will describe the integrated HR strategies that support the mission and vision of Parkview Health. Parkview Health (Parkview) is a non-profit, community-owned health care organization located in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio with almost 11,000 co-workers supporting 11 hospitals and 80 physician practices. Parkview is currently in pursuit of Magnet Recognition™, a prestigious international nursing accreditation recognizing excellence in nursing. The presentation will review HR initiatives launched by Parkview that culminated in a 10 percent reduction in first-year turnover and an increase from the 75th percentile to the 90th percentile for co-worker engagement in a three-year period.

The first component of the Parkview’s HR strategies highlights a comprehensive onboarding process which includes a pre-hire assessment, 30-60-90-day touch base for new hires and exit interviews. You will learn how the three stages of onboarding contribute to new hires’ adaptation and contribution to their team’s success.

The second component of Parkview’s HR strategies focuses on a formalized leadership development program. You will be introduced to the quarterly Leadership Development Institute’s New Leader Academy and an array of leadership development offerings from an internal blended-learning platform.

The third component of Parkview’s HR strategies supports efforts to foster and measure co-worker engagement. The presenters will share the success of the annual engagement survey, survey action planning and initiatives to connect co-workers to measures of success across the health care system. You will walk away with key concepts around HR strategies in the areas of onboarding, leadership development, and co-worker engagement that help create a culture in which co-workers want to work, patients want to receive care and physicians want to practice.
